How to stay secure and be more productive with Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise. We show you how to get started and make sure that where ever corporate data resides or travels, you can protect it.

Getting started with Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise

We are creating and sharing more information with colleagues and partners than ever before. This information traverses internal and external networks; it goes to team members via collaboration and messaging tools. In many cases enterprise information systems are regularly accessed by employees anywhere, any time via any device.

This means that organisations need to focus on more sophisticated ways of securing and protecting their data as it moves around the enterprise and beyond it. This information is the business’s most important asset, alongside those workers who create that content.

That’s why Microsoft has added security tools to its productivity suite. Secure Productive Enterprise adds protection features to its widely deployed office productivity tools, mobile device management and identity access management solutions.

Where to begin

When rolling out Secure Productive Enterprise, it is best to start with Windows 10 Enterprise E5. This is the only version of Windows 10 that includes Defender Advanced Threat Protection (more on that below). Windows 10 Enterprise E5 also sports all the features of its E3 sibling and so can be used in businesses that handle sensitive customer data or are in regulated industries.

Next up are the productivity tools themselves; Office 365. This is the suite your users will understand and work with the most. Not only will it create content, it can also be used to manage enterprise and customer data. With the E5 plan, organisations will also have the most up to date version of the Office applications and more besides, including mobile versions of the same apps so that your mobile warriors can access information wherever they are.

It is also cloud-based, so productivity is possible regardless of location and device. But this begs the question, how can the IT manager protect corporate data from malicious attacks?

IT administrators can implement a number of security features that come with Secure Productive Enterprise. Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) can assist in helping enterprises detect, investigate, and respond to advanced and targeted attacks on their networks. Part of this is built into Windows 10 and is activated upon service enrolment. The client logs relevant security events and behaviours from the endpoint.

There is also a cloud security analytics service that processes data from endpoints in combination with historical data and Microsoft’s wide data repository to detect anomalous behaviours. Lastly, Microsoft helps users by gathering intelligence data from the security community to find new behavioural patterns.

Microsoft Cloud App Security can be used by administrators to gain control of the SaaS apps employees, while Azure Information Protection helps ensure information stays secure.

Within Office 365 itself is Advanced Security Management. This can be implemented throughout an organisation to give IT administrators more visibility and control over an Office 365 environment.

Communications

Creating and securing content are just part of the puzzle; organisations also need to communicate internally and externally.

Skype for Business provides voice-over-IP (VoIP) calling over your network and the internet to users in your organisation, Skype for Business users in other companies, as well as ordinary Skype users. This solution can also be used to share content and video as well.

In addition to this, Cloud PBX can get rid of a traditional PBX system and its costs with a new offering based in the cloud. Not only can it be set up to carry out all the functions of that traditional PBX, but also has built-in voicemail and Exchange integration. Cloud PBX also comes with encryption by default.

Managing mobility

Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility Suite has been renamed Enterprise Mobility + Security. This solution can help IT administrators manage and protect users, devices, apps, and data in a mobile-first, cloud-first world. It provides a framework to protect assets whether they’re on-premise, on your mobile devices, or in the cloud.

The solution delivers and manages apps across a broad range of devices, including iOS, Android, Windows and Windows Phone, all from a single management console. It is important to note here that when planning a mobility strategy, organisations need to understand their users’ needs, as well as what devices they have and what platforms or applications will be used.

Getting started with Secure Productive Enterprise means that your organisation will be in a great place to deal with a multitude of issues that could face you now and in the future.

Thinking of rolling out Microsoft’s Secure Productive Enterprise for your organisation? Crayon has a team of experts on hand to reduce enterprise risk and total cost of ownership (TCO) through true strategic software asset management. In Spain Logtrust – an ISV that delivers a service of logs and metrics in Machine Real-Time (sub-second) or Human Real-Time (within 10 seconds) for any data, with any volume at any time – has chosen Crayon to assist with its migration to Azure. Logtrust will also work with Crayon’s specialists to help it drive channel sales.

Attraktive Funktionen in Windows 10 Enterprise

Warum sollten Unternehmen Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise E5 in Erwägung ziehen?

Hvorfor bør virksomheter vurdere Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise E5?

Enterprises to work together to democratise AI and make systems of intelligence accessible to all.

AI in Health Partners Alliance

Crayon has joined forces with Microsoft and over 20 health technology vendors to launch the AI in Health Partners Alliance.

Debuting at the Microsoft Health Innovation Summit in Brussels, the Alliance seeks to provide a platform to drive broad public awareness of how AI can empower better clinical and operational effectiveness. Furthermore, partners will help to ensure everyone has the competencies and tools needed to build intelligence into health solutions and bring these to market.

As part of this, Alliance members will receive unique training and exclusive access to Microsoft technologies, engineering expertise and data sets.

Microsoft believes that technology – specifically cloud, AI, collaboration and business optimisation tools – will be central to health care transformation.

New AI solutions will simplify and dramatically improve the quality of healthcare for patients worldwide, helping to improve rates of discharge, lower hospital admissions and assist in early diagnosis.

Through new initiatives, such as Healthcare NExT, Microsoft is aiming to dramatically transform healthcare and ‘enable a new wave of innovation and impact using Microsoft’s deep AI expertise and global-scale cloud’.

At the launch in Brussels over 250 health leaders gathered to hear about how Microsoft cloud solutions were helping to drive transformation of AI in health – an area set to expand at an exponential compound annual growth rate of 42 percent year-over-year by 2021.

Elena Bonfiglioli, senior director, Health Industry Europe Middle East and Africa, Public Sector, Microsoft suggests that by democratising AI, we will see a new era emerge.

“Communities will grow and develop to realize both the health and economic benefits of this exciting technology,” she explained in a recent post. “On the way, there will be questions and we are here to reflect, learn, innovate and iterate together. That’s what the AI in Health Partners Alliance is all about.”

Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise will not only secure your organisations’ information, but will empower employees to become more collaborative and productive. We look at the benefits of using this solution.

Empowering your employees with Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise

Digital transformation can certainly be labelled as one of the buzzwords of 2017 already, but unless firms continue to evolve and ensure their own businesses are future-proofed, it is unlikely they will be able to keep up with their own customers’ and indeed employees’ demands.

The concept of transforming a business to ensure it is up-to-date with the latest technologies and security requirements is not a new one, technology advances far too rapidly for that. However, the speed at which firms of all sizes and from all business sectors are transforming to a ‘digital first’ mentality has definitely ramped up over recent years.

And employee ‘empowerment’ goes hand-in-hand with digital transformation. Gone are the days of a nine-to-five job with employees working within their own little silos.

Instead workers are turning to a more fluid way of doing their jobs and interacting with colleagues, free from any constraints of time or location, and perhaps working out of designated office hours when the situation is required. The importance of being able to collaborate with co-workers wherever or whenever they need to is paramount.

As more ‘Millennials’ – those which have been described as ‘digital natives’ having grown up using the latest and most powerful technologies throughout their education – enter the workforce, ensuring a company is as technologically advanced as possible is going to attract the most skilled new workers and give said company a competitive advantage over its rivals.

Indeed the skills gap in many industries is a growing concern, none more so than the technology space, where industry association CompTIA warned that the skills deficit gap will grow to 15 per cent over the next eight years as older workers retire.

Never before has recruiting and retaining the right workforce – in whatever vertical sector/industry – been more important than it is now. And those companies that actively empower their employees will stand out from those that prefer to keep them on a short leash and stifle creativity and ambition.

Employee empowerment means more engaged, motivated and loyal workers, who are proactive and determined to make a difference to the business. They are willing to go above and beyond expectations to achieve positive results.

Most importantly, this translates into happy customers. If they are dealing with happy and positive contacts within their supplier business, they are more likely to be happy with the service they are receiving and keep coming back for more of the same.

So it is understandable that manufacturers such as Microsoft are keen to ensure their products not only drive digital transformation in the workplace, but also help to shape it for years to come.

Microsoft has been and intends to remain the provider of choice when it comes to office applications, its sales results speak for themselves.

The vendor’s own figures show there are 400 million monthly active devices running Windows 10, with 70 million commercial monthly active users of Office 365 and Azure Active Directory in EMS protecting one billion logins every single day. But it also realises that customer demands and needs change, and simplicity is the key to happy and satisfied customers.

This is the reason it has launched its Secure Productive Enterprise offering – the bringing together of Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite into a single license offering, designed to simplify the experience for its customers.

Julia White, general manager, cloud platform, at Microsoft said the firm had also addressed the issue of licensing with this bundling approach.

“As we’ve continued to innovate at a rapid pace in the cloud, we’ve heard from many customers that navigating Microsoft technology licensing options can be challenging,” she said in a blog post last year. “This is why we created the Enterprise Cloud Suite (ECS) a few years ago, to help simplify this purchase experience. Building from this approach, today, we’re taking the next step in continuing to simplify our enterprise technology licensing offerings while also delivering more value to our customers – introducing the Secure Productive Enterprise.”

White said that by bundling the products together, Microsoft can offer its customers even more value: “We are bringing together Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise, and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite into a single licensing offering called the Secure Productive Enterprise, that replaces the Enterprise Cloud Suite, and introducing even more value within this offering,” she explained. “With the Secure Productive Enterprise, customers have the latest and most advanced technology for empowering employees.” However, digital transformation is not something that can be achieved overnight, and the strategy needs the full backing of the whole C-level suite as well as those on the coalface.

A report by econsultancy entitled Effective Leadership in the Digital Age – claimed that for a business to successfully transform, its leadership and particularly the CEO, need to be ‘visibly literate’ in technology. A significant 71 per cent of nearly 500 respondents to its survey classed this as a ‘very important’ quality of a modern business leader.

Often this means the methods of how a particular technology set is sold is even more important. It is common for technology vendors to get carried away with the complexity of a particular product and not focus enough on what it actually means for a business customer. After all, for many, technology itself is not their core business. They just need it to make their business and their staff, more efficient.

By speaking the language of a business and crucially the CEO, a top-down approach can be adopted, to ensure the whole company is behind its digital direction.

Bob Tarzey, service director of Quorcirca, reiterated this point. “Digital transformation is an ongoing process, but it is not a new concept. It has been going on for years, such as when typewriters were replaced with word processors,” he said.

“I’m always amazed at how knowledgeable respondents to our surveys are, but often the industry focuses too much on how to digitally transform IT rather than the business itself. Customers need the focus to be on their business and what the technology can do for them. Customers need to see and read case studies from early adopters to see the success their peers are having as a result of the technology. This is really important.”

He also said in the past Microsoft has perhaps not been known for its security strengths but acknowledged the issue was being addressed with its latest technology offerings.

Validating this point, a Q4 2016 blog from Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president, Windows and Devices Group at Microsoft, announced a raft of enhancements to the Windows 10 Security stack, including Windows Defender Application Guard, described as a ‘revolutionary’ security improvement to Microsoft Edge.

“[It] uses virtualisation-based security technology to protect against advanced attacks coming from the internet, helping to protect the enterprise’s devices, employees, data and even corporate networks,” he said.

Security is the number one concern of business customers globally, with the average data breach costing $4 million, according to the Ponemon Institute; with Microsoft’s own figures revealing breaches are set to cost an estimated $3 trillion in lost productivity by 2020.

Mathias Knoefel, enterprise analyst at market watcher at Context, said there is still a lot of work to be done in the security space by all vendors.

“[Enterprise] revenues from security software, but also data management software products have grown year-on-year, by about 14 per cent combined for the year to date November 2016.

“With all the security threats we have seen and heard about in the past year, I personally think that sales of security products should have grown even more. Yes, some companies (and consumers) are taking care of their own data security, but too many seem to still rely on others/third parties to do this for them. Online fraud and security concerns have increased throughout 2016 and chances are it is only going to get worse.”

He warned that firms need to get more proactive when it comes to security, and again, this is where the likes of Microsoft can capitalise.

“It seems that many companies only ‘react’ to bad news, and implement security measures when they read about someone being caught out (like it happened with TalkTalk last summer).

“Our data shows that security software revenues showed year-on-year growth in Q2, and data management in Q3, but since then have both dropped below the level of the previous year.”

Across Europe the pressure is added to by the GDPR rules coming into play in May 2018. If the rules are not met, firms could face sanctions of up to €20m or four per cent of global annual turnover – whichever is greater – from regulators.

Context’s Knopfler said there is growing concern that many companies have not implemented enough security measures to meet GDPR [in 2018].

And in the UK, the added problem of Brexit has thrown many business leaders into further confusion over how they are going to be GDPR compliant after Article 50 is triggered.

With the continuing shadow of increasingly complex and potentially lethal security breaches hanging over businesses, coupled with a growing thirst for digital transformation and a desire to retain and attract top talent, now is an ideal opportunity for a product such as Secure Productive Enterprise to really make a difference to all the progressive and forward-thinking businesses out there.

Transitioning to Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise E5 from Enterprise Cloud Suite

The move from Enterprise Cloud Suite to Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise (SPE) could not be easier for some organisations.

In fact, for some firms, they need do nothing at all. Microsoft rebranded its Enterprise Cloud Suite to Secure Productive Enterprise E3 and then added extra value by giving organisations access to the latest and more advanced technology from Microsoft. SPE combines Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite into a single licensing offering.

It is important to note that Enterprise Mobility + Security is the new name for what was previously the Enterprise Mobility Suite. Again, if your organisation was on the previous Enterprise Cloud Suite, you need do nothing to move onto Enterprise Mobility + Security E3.

Moving up to Secure Productive Enterprise E5

The change in name should give organisations the chance to consider whether it is time to move up to the E5 plan.

With Secure Productive Enterprise E3, organisations get Office 365 E3 (which includes Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Skype for Business Online, OneDrive for Business (Unlimited Storage), Yammer Enterprise, and Office 365 Pro Plus + Office Online.

It also comes with the Enterprise Mobility + Security Suite E3 (Same as the previous Enterprise Mobility Suite). This includes Azure AD Premium P1 (previously Azure AD Premium), Azure Information Protection P1 (previously Azure RMS Premium), File Encryption, Cloud-based File Tracking, Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics, and Microsoft Intune. The plan also includes Windows 10 Enterprise E3.

Organisations may want to particularly consider transitioning to Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise E5 if they require extra collaboration and communications capabilities or want to optimise their security functionality. This is the “premium” SKU and adds the following additional capabilities/licenses.

Office 365 E5 adds Enterprise Voice with Skype for Business (for On-premise PBX), Cloud PBX, and PSTN Conferencing. PSTN conferencing enables invitees to join Skype for Business meetings by dialling in from a landline or mobile phone. Cloud PBX for cloud-based call management allows users to make, receive, and transfer calls across a wide range of devices.

It also includes advanced services such as Advanced eDiscovery (formerly Equivio), Exchange Online Advanced Threat Protection – Secure Attachments and URLs and Customer LockBox – Access Controls.

For organisations wanting to get more information out of their information systems, Delve Analytics offers end user and organisational analytics.

The Enterprise Mobility + Security Suite E5 has a number of features that organisations may want to consider moving up to. These include Azure AD Premium P2, which has everything in Azure AD Premium P1, as well as Azure Active Directory Identity Protection and Azure Active Directory Privileged Identity Management.

It also features Azure Information Protection P2 which combines Azure Information Protection P1 (File Encryption, Cloud-based File Tracking) with Automatic document classification (formerly Secure Islands). There is also Microsoft Cloud App Security (formerly Adallom) for identity-driven security in the cloud.

Lastly, Windows 10 Enterprise E5 adds Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection. It is worthwhile noting that Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics does not change between E3 and E5 but it is classified in the same security pillar as Cloud App Security.

Flexible licensing

Secure Productive Enterprise offers flexible licensing for organisations looking to move to the cloud with a single, per-user subscription that’s cloud-first with on-premise capabilities. Firms can install, access and use Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and Skype for Business servers in dedicated environments without needing to buy on-premises applications or server software.

Both plans are offered as a single, per-user SKU, comprising cloud-first, on-premises capable licensing entitlements to help subscribers transition from on-premises environments to the cloud.

Current Enterprise Cloud Suite organisations are now Secure Productive Enterprise E3 customers. This means that they get Productivity Server Rights as a Secure Productive Enterprise benefit and there won’t be a need to purchase additional server licenses in most cases.

Regardless of whether your organisation stays with the E3 version of the package or trades up to E5, the changes outline Microsoft’s plan to make sure customers have the right technology to manage a secure and productive enterprise and enable an organisation’s digital transformation journey.

IT security is fundamental to any organisation. Microsoft has focused on corporate security requirements with SPE, but how does it compare with Enterprise Cloud Suite and what are its benefits?

What’s new in Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise?

Microsoft launched its new Secure Productive Enterprise (SPE) Suite in October this year to replace the standard Enterprise Cloud Suite (ECS). The suite comes in two versions, E3 and E5. So what is new in SPE and what are the fundamental differences between the two?

Secure Productive Enterprise brings together Office 365, Enterprise Mobility + Security, and Windows 10 Enterprise all on a user-based licensing model.

With the Office 365 Productivity Suite, users can take advantage of productivity in the cloud and on mobile. Office 365 Pro Plus can be installed on five PCs and Macs and can be accessed on smartphone and tablet apps.

There are also rich collaboration and communication features, such as Exchange Online, with unlimited mailboxes and storage per user. Employees can also access SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business (with unlimited storage), Skype for Business Online and enterprise social networking service Yammer.

Office 365 Intelligence uses the cloud to add improvements in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Sway and Maps which include auto content creation and suggestions for layout, based on agenda and theme. MyAnalytics (formerly Delve Analytics) provides new insights into an organisation’s teams, contacts and customer interactions. There are also personal analytics that measure and suggest improvements to an individual’s productivity.

Getting mobile and secure

Secure Productive Enterprise also features a new bundle of tools called Enterprise Mobility + Security. This provides organisations with advanced security powered by Azure and Office 365 Graph to help businesses with their transition to mobile and cloud. This builds on what was previously known as Enterprise Mobility Suite, but also incorporates Microsoft Azure Information Protection service to enable organisations to categorise, mark and protect sensitive data.

This also offers identity and access management with Azure Active directory. This protects access to applications and resources across the data centre and the cloud, allowing extra levels of validation such as multi-factor authentication and conditional access policies.

The main new additional features come in the premium E5 plan. Azure Active Directory Premium P2 includes all the features found in P1 (from the previous Enterprise Mobility Suite) and adds Azure Identity Protection and Azure Privileged Identity Management. The former is a cloud security service that uses state of the art machine learning to analyse 10TB of behavioural and contextual data every day to detect and prevent attacks. Azure AD Privileged Identity Management is a cloud-based privileged identity management solution

that increases the security of your Azure AD administrator accounts and improves your administrative compliance and auditing.

Azure Information Protection Premium P2 once again takes features in the previous Enterprise Mobility Suite and adds intelligent, automatic classification and encryption of files and emails shared inside and outside the organisation.

Lastly, Microsoft Cloud App Security is a new offering that uncovers all cloud apps in use in an organisation’s network – gaining visibility into “Shadow IT” – and evaluates the threat of that app.

Window into Windows 10 Enterprise

Windows 10 Enterprise not only offers standard enterprise features such as Edge and Cortana OneNote, but also sports software assurance benefits such as MPAM, AGPM and Dart. Organisations will be pleased to learn that E-learning vouchers and an extended 24/7 Hotfix Support are also thrown into the mix.

One area where E5 has the edge over E3 is the inclusion of its Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) into Windows 10 Enterprise. This cloud-based service can help organisations detect, investigate and respond to advanced attacks on their networks. The feature uses a combination of behavioural sensors, cloud-based security analytics and threat intelligence, as well as drawing intelligence from the Microsoft Security Graph.

Bringing together Office 365, Enterprise Mobility + Security, and Windows 10 Enterprise into one package could pay dividends for your organisation’s security and productivity. We look at why you should consider this option.

Why should enterprises consider Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise E5?

It has become a common phrase for many organisations that they need to do less with more. This is definitely true when it comes to security. Many organisations face budget squeezes but still need to make sure that they are properly secured against all types of threats.

They are also expected to increase productivity and Microsoft’s Secure Productive Enterprise E5 combines the productivity of Office and Windows with world-leading security features.

The combination of Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise, and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite will enable employees not only to achieve better productivity, but also improve collaboration, mobility and business insights within a secure framework.

For enterprises, Secure Productive Enterprise further simplifies your licensing options while delivering more value. It builds on the simplification of licensing when Enterprise Cloud Suite was launched a few years ago. Secure Productive Enterprise brings Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise, and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite into a single licensing offering, replacing Enterprise Cloud Suite.

This means that as well as a range of productivity tools, the license also gives organisations cutting edge security technology including Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (for endpoint breach detection), Microsoft Cloud App Security (for monitoring employee SaaS usage), and Azure Information Protection (to control information flow around and outside your company). It also features Office 365 Advanced Security Management to provide a view of your Office 365 environment.

There are also cloud-based technologies such as Office 365 Delve Analytics and Microsoft Power BI for analytics and visualisation. Skype for Business PSTN conferencing and Cloud PBX, brings voice communications to the cloud, while Office 365 Advanced e-Discovery allows organisations to find information easily and without friction.

Name changes

As well as simplifying licensing options, Microsoft has standardised packaging offerings across Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite.

Windows 10 Enterprise gets renamed Windows 10 Enterprise E5 and will include Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection.

Enterprise Mobility + Security is the new name for what was previously called Enterprise Mobility Suite. The reason behind this is that the suite now offers the increased security that organisations crave. Enterprise Mobility and Security E5 will include advanced security capabilities such as; Azure Active Directory Premium P2 (which offers all the capabilities in Azure AD Premium P1, as well as the new Identity Protection and Privileged Identity Management capabilities); Azure Information Protection Premium P2 (which builds on Azure Information Protection Premium P1 and adds automatic classification, on top of the manual classification, labelling and everything else included in P1); and Microsoft Cloud App Security.

Secure Productive Enterprise E5 is available now that the new Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility + Security functionality has all been released.

Move to the cloud

It should be noted that Secure Productive Enterprise is Microsoft’s way of easing organisations into consuming cloud services, while maintaining access to on-premise application services (like Exchange, SharePoint or Skype for Business), and allowing organisations to have traditional installations without having to pay simultaneously for on premise software and cloud. This means that organisations can move to the cloud by leveraging existing software investments.

It also means that organisations have a much simpler way of licensing and using the technology they need to operate productive and secure infrastructure to move ahead with their digital transformation projects.
