We asked a Cloud Manager to keep a diary of his typical week. The opportunities, the threats, the opportunities for threats, the highs, the lows and the scary things they never warn you about on training courses...
CLOUD MANAGER’S DIARY DAY 2:
Anyway, as I was explaining to the Doctor, these are the Face Palm incidents that led to my concussion.
(Not sure why the doctor needs to know this. Something about some hospital study on a new medical phenomenon. The Increasing Incidence of Face Palm Related Hospital Admissions Of Cloud Managers.)
Incident One: Time Monday
Severity of Impact: Estimated 300,000 brain cells damaged as palm interfaces with cranium.
Financial impact: About the same, if you swap brain cells for pounds.
Career Impact: To be Decided.
Emotional Impact: 16 hours lost sleep.
Incident details: Head of Marketing wanted faster response times when drilling down. When asked what she meant by this, she didn’t have time to explain. I adopted friendly helper approach “how are we going to solve this?” She said the man at the conference had told her we had to upgrade to a new App. She seemed to know all the right technical terms, so I foolishly caved in and let her place the orders. Later, when asked: Did you read the Software License Agreement, she displayed classic symptoms of hostile behaviour. Of course not, hisses Marketing Head. That’s your job.
Face Palm Incident rating: 0.3 on Richter Scale
Notes: This is a problem that could come back to haunt me.
